Rantings of the Writers Strike

Published by roustan under Literary Industry Edit This

I’m a little late in this since the strike ended awhile ago, but damn it, I’m still feeling the effects of how they walked out on all us who want to be entertained simply because they wanted a few extra freakin’ bucks! Their ga ga’s over the greenbacks makes me want to spew my shoes and then force each of them to wear my shoes for at least twenty seconds.

Do they have any idea how much they get paid there in Hollywood compared to all us aspiring writers? Dear, Jesus. Give me your damn jobs, and I’ll write. I’ll enjoy it. And I’ll actually make a living off of it. Dear, God, I even checked Forbes based on an interesting post by the phenomenal agent Kristin Nelson, a post about the highest paid authors of today–without a doubt, J.K. Rowling topping the chart with a mind-boggling $300 million just last year. Sheesh…I’d be satisfied with a $60,000 salary doing what I love!

So, Hollywood writers, listen to me very carefully–give me your jobs, it’s more than enough money for me. Freakin’ bring back “24″ and Jack bauer, too, while you’re at it, ’cause I’ve been waiting for the oceans to freeze over longer than my show to come back with season 7. Jack’s probably in a rocker by now. Season 7 will be several hours of him trying to get a bowel movement. Stimulating.

Okay, done ranting. Sorry, people–I can get antsy and enraged very easily. Don’t mess with me. To lighten things up then!–I’ve added this wonderful video from the “Ask a Ninja”, discussing the writers strike. Have fun. Taco Supreme.

The Eloquence of Words: Part II

Yes, it’s back. The theater has returned to dazzle you with stunning screenplay and the best banter money can buy. Great writing. Great acting.

I got a little diverse with this one set of dialogue sequences. But I still retained the concept of memorable speeches and such, the kind of stuff that makes us want to belt out and go, “yeah!”, maybe even cry. Valiant speeches, nearly Shakespearean speeches. Beautiful stuff.

But I also touched on sheer minimalism here. It’s more about the quality of emotion with as few words as possible–hard-hitting words. Not very eloquent, but the sheer simplicity of dialogue sometimes knocks us off our feet. I’ve remembered a few of those. Those hit home, too. And I have one of them here.

So without further adieu, I present to you a second list of eloquence, memorable eloquence:

“The Apostle”

“Malice”

“The Basketball Diaries”

“Independence Day”
